A white woman who grew up in Nigeria has clapped back at people accusing her of “mocking” Nigerian Pidgin with the way she speaks.
In a fiery rant, she said she’s been in Nigeria since she was two months old, surrounded by people speaking Pidgin every day, so it’s only natural she picked up the accent.
She compared it to Nigerians raised in the UK or Ireland, who naturally speak with British or Irish accents without anyone accusing them of “mocking” those cultures.
“But me, because I’m a white woman raised in Nigeria, I’m suddenly mocking the culture? I don’t understand you guys,” she said.
