In a show of gallantry and swift response, the Anambra Joint Security Team on the evening of Wednesday, 15th May 2025, successfully repelled an armed attack on a security checkpoint in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area.
The operatives, who engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, neutralised two of the armed hoodlums. Unfortunately, the operation recorded a tragic loss as one security operative sustained fatal injuries. One operational vehicle was also set ablaze by the fleeing assailants.
During the confrontation, the superior firepower of the security team forced the criminals to retreat, abandoning one of their operational vehicles, a Toyota Sienna, at the scene.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, MNIPS, PhD, condemned the attack, describing it as a test of Ndi Anambra’s collective resolve to rid the state of criminal elements. He assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
“This unpatriotic act will not go unpunished. We remain resolute in our mission to protect the lives and property of citizens. We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies,” CP Orutugu stated.
Calm has since returned to the area, with reinforcements deployed. Armed operatives are currently combing nearby bushes to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
