Reliable information reaching us revealed that there is ongoing unrest in Kaduna prison that started at the early hours of Tuesday, 31 March, 2020 over suspected cases of Covid-19. The incident led to chaos and government is presently deploying more armed security men to the prison. It is pertinent to state that his eminence, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) and his wife Malama Zeenah Ibraheem are being detained in the same Kaduna prison.
What is happening at Kaduna prison is another sinister attempt at achieving a target. If not, as real as Covid-19, medical experts have proffered advice and measures against the novel virus, as to stay safe. The measures are no doubt paramount, and prison decongestion across the country is one of them. Instead of heeding the caveat of experts, oppressive as the heads of Buhari government are, they would rather use the critical moment to cruel motives than heed the warning of qualified medical practitioners.
Despite the atrocious brutalities meted out to Sheikh Zakzaky, Buhari adamantly remains focused on his elimination. As the main stakeholder, he thinks the only way to bury the crimes of the massacre in Zaria is through having him killed. This is a warped thinking.
Buhari together with all the accessories to the murders at Gyallesu had really left no stone unturned before the Sheikh’s evacuation to military detention facility. Sane and reasonable, no one would have. thought the institution that spearheaded the savageries would extend treatments to the main victim, whom it had wanted to kill against all odds. Having riddled the body of Sheikh Zakzaky with poisonous bullets, they refused him the treatments most required.
Half a dozen of his sons were killed in cold blood, his wife sustained gunshot injuries with bullets yet lodging in her body. Both were dragged on the gory corpses of their murdered sons. Elder sister of his was put into a room, locked from outside and set ablaze. A man to whom these atrocities were dispensed became an object of false accusations in a kangaroo court.
That Sheikh Zakzaky along with his wife is in serious need of medication is obvious, yet Buhari denies him the inalienable right to it. Therefore, whatever happens to the Sheikh, Buhari will be held responsible, and thus bear the consequences.
In view of the foregoing, we are calling the public and international community to join us in demanding the unconditional release of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife amidst the Kaduna prison unrest and Covid-19 pandemic.
