The Kano State Government has announced a donation of N1 million to each family of the 22 athletes and officials who lost their lives in a fatal road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

According to Sahara Reporters, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam made the announcement after receiving a briefing from sports officials about the tragic event. Alongside the cash donation, the government also pledged to provide food items to support the bereaved families in arranging the immediate burial of their loved ones, in line with religious and cultural customs.

Abdulsalam conveyed the state’s profound sorrow over the incident and offered condolences to the affected families, assuring them of the government’s full support during this difficult time.

The accident occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at about 9am in Dakstalle town, located in Kura Local Government Area, roughly 50 kilometers from Kano. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle, carrying approximately 35 passengers—mainly athletes and officials—fell off a bridge, resulting in a de@dly crash.

The victims were in the last of eight vehicles transporting the Kano contingent from the festival. One of the survivors, Ado Salisu, explained that they had been travelling overnight when the tragedy struck.
