Venerable Edwin Achi, an Anglican priest abducted in Kaduna State, has reportedly died while in the custody of his captors, SaharaReporters has learned.

Achi and his wife, Sarah Achi, were kidnapped from their residence in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025. The abduction became public the following day after the kidnappers sent proof-of-life photographs to the family, demanding a ransom of ₦600 million. The disturbing images showed the couple in distress, alongside other visibly malnourished captives who were chained.

A reliable source confirmed on Wednesday night that Venerable Achi, who served as the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, died while being held by the abductors. However, there was no immediate update regarding the condition or whereabouts of his wife.

The tragedy adds to the growing wave of insecurity plaguing Kaduna State. Earlier, Akelicious had reported that bandits killed two police officers during a night raid on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, in Southern Kaduna.
