A suspected terrorist in Zamfara State has reportedly collected ₦10 million ransom after abducting a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), sparking outrage over the worsening security situation in parts of northern Nigeria.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the victim’s family and associates were forced to raise the money to secure the release of the corps member. However, after receiving the ransom, the suspect allegedly made an additional demand for two brand-new motorcycles.
The motorcycles were reportedly delivered as requested in a bid to ensure the safe release of the abducted corps member. Eyewitness accounts further claim that the suspect even took photographs with the individuals who delivered the ransom and the motorcycles, showing off the items after receiving them.
The incident, which allegedly occurred in Zamfara State, has triggered renewed concerns about kidnapping and banditry in the region.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but calls for stronger security measures and protection for corps members serving in high-risk areas continue to grow.
