The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate in Ifako/Ijaiye Local Government Area for the forthcoming local government election, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, has threatened to take legal action against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Agege Local Government Area, Hon. Sola Osolana.
Hamzat, who is the younger to brother to the Lagos State deputy governor, explained that he would institute a legal action against Osolana if he did not desist from using the acronym “HEEDS” as his electioneering slogan.
In a letter to Osolana dated July 10 2021, a copy, which was obtained by Daily Independent, the solicitors to Hamzat claimed that the “HEEDS” agenda was resourcefully innovated by their client (Hamzat) “and to further secure the aforesaid idea, our client took further steps to trademark same,” part of the letter stated.
The letter signed by Oluwatosin Arigbanla of Vitals Law Firm, read further, “However, it has come to our notice that you have directly and/or indirectly used and/or caused to be used on your behalf the aforementioned idea for your personal gain and/or political acceptability as if same was innovated by you.
“Pursuant to the above herein stated, we hereby give you notice to refrain from using the H.E.E.D.S Agenda nor cause same to be used on your behalf as our client had both in equity and law obtained the first right of usage.
“Please take further notice that if you fail and/or refuse and/or willingly refuse and/ or decide and/or neglect to refrain from the said idea as herein stated, we shall appropriately involve relevant authorities and/or take necessary legal action(s) against you.”
When contacted for his reaction, Osolana said he was not aware of any letter neither from Hamzat nor his solicitors, just as he clarified that he did not infringe on any copyright.
He however, clarified that what Hamzat was laying claims to might be a clash of ideas, stating further that his ideas were basic programmes for the people of his local government.
