
The Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, has called on public service workers to prioritise professional development.
He urged them to embrace continuous training and lifelong learning as essential to building an effective and dynamic workforce.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Commissioner highlighted the ministry’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and knowledge sharing across the state’s ministries, departments, and agencies.
Ayantayo made these remarks during a three-day boot camp for Learning and Development Schedule Officers in the State Public Service, held at Novotel Hotel, Lekki, which concluded on Saturday.
He praised the initiative as a strategic step towards institutionalising structured learning.
The boot camp, themed “Cultivating Growth through Learning and Development,” was described by Ayantayo as both “timely and timeless.”
He emphasised the need to transition from ad-hoc training to a more strategic and long-term approach to workforce development.
Flexibility, foresight, and knowledge remain the cornerstones of effective public service delivery,” he stated. “The future we envision for Lagos’ public service depends on our collective commitment to learn, grow, and lead through learning.”
Delivering the keynote address, the Head of Service, Bode Agoro represented by the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Establishments and Training, Bibilomo Olushekun underscored the importance of investing in human capital as a critical driver of innovation, efficiency, and global competitiveness.
He highlighted the need to bridge skill gaps and leverage emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence to enhance the performance of the state’s workforce.
According to the statement, the boot camp featured sessions on core topics including monitoring and evaluation, e-learning, and human capital analytics, and was attended by over 100 participants.
