Coalition of Igbo Groups, has reacted to the leaked information and allegations from Mohammed Lawal, Special Assistant to the suspended Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on the roles played behind the scenes by some powerful politicians that masterminded and executed the political incarceration of Nigeria Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor kalu, for six months.
Recall that in an article published by a London based media outfit, Eculaw , Mohammed Lawal, Special Assistant to the former Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, ( EFCC), C.P. Ibrahim Magu revealed the conspiracy and conspirators that sent the former Governor of Abia state and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to prison .
Part of the article read, “I am aware of certain information in the file, that was manufactured and manipulated and used against Kalu. For instance, the total amount of the cheques covering the money Orji Uzor Kalu was accused of embezzling was actually 2.1 billion naira, not the 7.6 billion that we made it out to be. And the cheques in question were drawn against the security votes account. I know what was done to turn things around and make the figures to become 7.6 billion, and present it as if taken from the state treasury instead of the security votes account. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s conviction was carefully arranged and it worked out as planned, at least initially”.
However, in a joint signed by, Mazi Alex Okemiri, President, World Igbo Youth Congress, (WIYC), Dr Mrs Helen Ogbonnaya, Southeast Women Professionals, (SWP) Comrade Chidi Ugwujo, President, Igbo Students Union, (ISU), after the end of their monthly joint meeting with the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide in Abakiliki Ebonyi, State on Saturday, described the scenario as one of the deadiest conspiracies uncovered in this present political dispensation and called for thorough investigation by President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly.
This was made known in a press release, on Sunday, by the President, Ohanaeze Youth Council, (OYC), Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary General, Okwu Nnabuike.
The Igbo groups lauded the courageous decision of Mohammed Lawal to expose the alleged treacherous nature of those they described as “untouchables” especially the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who had been allegedly linked to many accusations of corruption allegations and Senate’s Minority leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Igbo groups also demanded that President Buhari should set up special presidential committee to conduct an Independent and forensic Investigations into the allegations of Mohammed Lawal indicting Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and others.
“Having been allegedly indicted and abused his oath of Office as the Vice President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Pastor (Prof)Yemi Osinbajo should tow the path of Honour and resign his Position as the Vice President of Nigeria and voluntarily submit himself for investigations or if he decides to hide under Immunity clause of 1999 constitution to forestall being investigated, there should be a commencement of Impeachment proceedings against the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo by the National Assembly”.
They alleged that Abaribe was drawing scripts for Magu led EFCC to nail his fellow senators from Abia State, especially, Senator Orji kalu and another Senator through corruption allegations.
“We believe that Abaribe is on a vendetta mission to punish Orji kalu and Theodore Orji, Olafter his(Abaribe), impeachment as former Abia Deputy Governor in 2003, “they posited.
“The allegations against Igbo leaders by Mohammed Lawal against Senator Orji kalu, as the height of injustice ever perpetuated against the collective interests of South East and the Igbo Spirit of ‘”Onye Ahala Nwanneya, (Be my Brothers keeper).
“There will be strict sanctions against any Igbo political leader, if found guilty of instigating any political witchhunt of another Igbo leaders through the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, “the groups threatened.
Meanwhile, as at the time of this report, Senator Abaribe or Media Aide could not be reached for his reaction to the lastest allegations against him by the Igbo Coalition.
