
The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man, Buhari Sule, for allegedly killing his younger brother’s wife, Ummi Saleh, with a pestle in Gunka village, Jahun Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, at about 5:30 pm, also left a neighbour’s daughter, Hauwa Alkassim, with serious injuries.
This was disclosed in an official statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam. According to the statement, a distress call prompted the immediate deployment of the Divisional Police Officer and his patrol team to the scene.
Upon arrival, the victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Jahun, for emergency medical attention. Unfortunately, Ummi Saleh was pronounced dead while receiving treatment. Hauwa Alkassim remains hospitalized and is undergoing treatment for her injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect, Buhari Sule, may be mentally unstable. The police spokesperson noted that a comprehensive medical evaluation will be conducted to assess his mental health and determine the extent to which it may have influenced the tragic incident.
The police have released the remains of Ummi Saleh to her family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites after the completion of necessary investigative procedures.
SP Shi’isu Adam urged the public to remain calm and continue cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation progresses. He also called on community members to provide any useful information that could assist in the ongoing inquiry.
“The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect remains in police custody. We urge members of the public to cooperate fully with the authorities as we work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident,” Adam stated.
