Mark of 28 years Memory as Nigeria ex international Boxer and Victory in September 1992

History:After creation of Abia state by Nigeria Military Head of State .

In view to project the positive image of then newly created Abia State . The Governor of Abia State . Gov Ogbonnaya Onu then mandated all the ministry especially Ministry of Sports through the Sports Council to employ credible and talented young sportsmen and Women to help project the good image of Abia State and human capacity building .

The Sports Council through Abia State Boxing Association invited the young Ikechukwu Okoronkwo living at Enugu for screening for employment as Active Athletes in the Field of Boxing.

After the screening Ikechukwu Okoronkwo defeated boxers from Umuahia,Aba and other LGA in Abia state during Abia State Boxing championship at Umuahia township stadium and further qualified after Boxing Trial in Umuahia to represent Abia State in National Open Boxing Championship at indoor sports hall National Stadium surulere Lagos.

Ikechukwu Okoronkwo represented Abia State in National Open Boxing Championship Lagos.

Ikechukwu Okoronkwo defeated both police boxers. Army Boxers,other Military/para Military boxers and other State representative Boxers to won Gold medal for Abia State to became the then Light Weight National Boxing Champion.

Which created the record that made Ikechukwu Okoronkwo the first male Sportsperson/Boxer to won Gold Medal for Abia State at National open Boxing Championship at Lagos in 1992.

Ikechukwu Okoronkwo technical Boxing ability and Skills made ways for his call to National Boxing Camp at Games Village surulere Lagos for National Service.

After harder training the then young growing boxer Ikechukwu Okoronkwo moved from Light Weight Boxing class from( 57kg to 60kg) to higher weight class. Light welter weight Boxing Class from ( 60kg to 63.5kg).

After serious trial with older boxers Ikechukwu Okoronkwo become Only Boxer from Abia State to qualified to fight for Nigeria.

Ikechukwu Okoronkwo represented Nigeria in Many international Boxing Championship including Montreal_ Canada,Cuba, and others
(1) ..IN SEPTEMBER 1992… Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo won Gold medal for Nigeria at (President Cup)IBB International Boxing Championship for World peace Hosted at Lagos from 13th to 20th September 1992 in boxing weight class of Light welter Weight Boxing division ( from 60kg to 63.5kg) wherein Ikechukwu Okoronkwo Technical and Skillful Boxing ability earned Ikechukwu Okoronkwo victories against Tough South Africa Opponent in Semifinal and also outclassed the vateran knockout specialist opponent from Benin Republic in the Finals to win the International Boxing Champion in that light welter weight Boxing category.
That was How Nigeria Recorded Gold medal in that Boxing Division.

Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo is now helping young children to develop their God given talent and also work as humanitarian worker especially in South Eastern State Nigeria which were badly neglected in Sports development.
