The Mayor of Awka North Local Government Area, Hon. ThankGod Chibuike Anago, yesterday performed the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of the Ultra-Modern Oye Market in Urum.
The ceremony, which drew notable attendance from key stakeholders, including the President-General of Urum community and other community leaders, marked the commencement of a major infrastructural project aimed at transforming local commerce.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Anago highlighted the significance of the market to the economic life of Urum and its surrounding communities. He described the project as a fulfillment of a campaign promise made in September 2024 to Ndi Urum, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to improving the standard of living and boosting local trade.
“The importance of Oye Market to the people of Urum cannot be overstated. It serves as a vital hub for trade and commerce, and this ultra-modern redevelopment will elevate its status and impact in the region,” the Mayor said.
He reaffirmed that the initiative is part of broader efforts by his administration to deliver on its development mandate across Awka North LGA.
