
The Cabinet, Ákwá Mburubu, and the Council of Village Chairmen of Mburubu Ancient Kingdom warmly invite the general public to the New Yam Festival (Iri Ji) celebration of one of their great sons and leaders, High Chief Dr Engr Ozo Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe (Ozo Chinyereugo I of Mburubu Ancient Kingdom).
According to a press statement signed by Chief Onwuka Ezekwe, Cabinet Secretary; Ozo Patrick Igbudu, Secretary, Ndi Ozo Mburubu; Ozo Felix Chukwu, Ezeani of Mburubu Ancient Kingdom; Mr Anthony Ani, Coordinating Chairman, Council of Village Chairmen; and Chief Ositadimma Ezeh, Chairman, Mburubu Youth Council, the festival will hold on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the residence of High Chief Dr Engr Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, Uhuagba, Mburubu, by 11 am.
The statement stated that, the event will feature colourful cultural displays, traditional dances, masquerade performances, live music, and delicious local dishes. Guests will also enjoy comedy, traditional wrestling, and other exciting side attractions.
It also stated that, the New Yam Festival is a time of thanksgiving, unity, and renewal for the Mburubu people, symbolizing gratitude to God for a successful farming season and the beginning of another.
The release also posited that, dignitaries from across Enugu State and beyond are expected to grace the occasion to celebrate High Chief Ozo Jerry Onuokaibe, described as a pillar of community development and a true son of Mburubu Ancient Kingdom.
Addressing the newsmen, high chief Onuokaibe expressed his happiness to God and his community for organizing such a wonderful event, which celebrates the culture of the land ;adding that the New Yam Festival remains one of the strongest symbols of Igbo identity, peace, and continuity.
He also stated that, the event serves not only as a cultural gathering but also as a moment to strengthen brotherhood, promote unity, and inspire the younger generation to uphold the values of hard work and community service.
High Chief Onuokaibe further thanked ndị Ákwá Mburubu , youth groups, and women of Mburubu for their collective efforts toward sustaining the rich heritage of the kingdom. He encouraged everyone to continue supporting community initiatives that promote development, peace, and progress.
He however, invited friends, well-wishers, and lovers of culture to attend the festival in large numbers, assuring them of warm hospitality, fun-filled entertainment, and memorable experiences that showcase the true spirit of Mburubu Ancient Kingdom.
