Controversial Catholic priest, Ebube Muonso, has stirred fresh debate nationwide following a fiery statement criticizing silence among religious leaders and calling for the release of detained separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a viral remark, the outspoken cleric condemned what he described as the complicity and fear of many Nigerians, particularly men of God, amid the country’s worsening situation. He also took a swipe at certain members of the “City Boys” movement, accusing them of contributing to the nation’s challenges.
Muonso questioned why many influential voices, especially within the religious community, have remained silent, alleging that fear has prevented them from speaking out against perceived injustices.
He further used the platform to reiterate his demand for the release of Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), whose continued detention remains a highly divisive issue in Nigeria’s political and legal landscape.
Kanu has been in the custody of the Federal Government over charges bordering on terrorism and secession, with his case continuing to generate legal and political controversy both locally and internationally.
