The Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe has intercepted vessels suspected to be transporting illegally refined crude oil valued at about $300 million, in a major crackdown on oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

The operation, carried out across key waterways, highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian security forces to combat large-scale crude oil theft and illegal bunkering, which have long affected the country’s economy and oil production capacity.

Operation Delta Safe, a multi-agency military task force involving the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, has intensified surveillance and enforcement activities in the creeks to disrupt criminal networks involved in oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

Oil theft remains a major challenge in Nigeria, with criminal networks using illegal refineries, vessels, and complex supply chains to siphon crude oil for black market sales both locally and internationally.

Security authorities say the latest interception underscores renewed determination to protect critical national assets and boost crude oil production, while sending a strong warning to those involved in economic sabotage.
