A mob on Tuesday night attacked officers of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at Koza village near the Maiadua border in Katsina State, setting a Customs patrol vehicle on fire.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on 3 December 2025, when officers at the Koza checkpoint attempted to intercept a Pathfinder SUV suspected to be involved in smuggling. The vehicle, which was reportedly travelling from Daura toward the Kongolam border, allegedly tried to evade arrest and sped into Koza village.
According to reports, the driver’s escape triggered tension in the community as some residents blocked the highway and set ablaze a Golf 3 vehicle used by the Customs personnel.
Reinforcement teams were immediately deployed to the area to rescue the officers and restore normalcy. No casualties were reported as at the time of filing this report, though the burnt vehicle was completely destroyed.
