It appears Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s love story had an unexpected matchmaker—Rocky’s mom.
Speaking on NYT Popcast, the rapper revealed that even when he and Rihanna were just friends, his mother was constantly encouraging him to make a move. “Mothers know best!” he laughed, admitting she was right all along. At the time, neither he nor Rihanna was ready for a serious relationship, but Rocky always had a soft spot for the singer.
Reflecting on their relationship, Rocky expressed gratitude that their romance began when it did. Beyond their romantic connection, the couple shares strong cultural and family ties. “We were on the same page. Born the same year. My dad is from her country… When I go back, I get to see both sides of my family,” he explained.
The pair first met at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, but it wasn’t until 2020 that their friendship blossomed into romance. Since then, they have been inseparable, raising three children—RZA, Riot, and Rocki. Fans continue to speculate about whether the couple is secretly married, especially after Rocky referred to Rihanna as his “wife” in interviews.
