The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Atiku Isah, has described his time in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) as a “wonderful experience,” saying it gave him the opportunity to meet the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Isah made the revelation while speaking with journalists on Wednesday, noting that his perception of Kanu changed completely after their encounter in detention.
Being in DSS detention was a wonderful experience because it afforded me the opportunity of meeting somebody that is dear to my heart now that is Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.
“I had thought that he was a wicked man who wanted to divide Nigeria, but after I met him, I changed my mind.”
The NANS president further called for fairness and national reconciliation in the handling of politically sensitive cases, urging the Federal Government to discontinue Kanu’s trial in the spirit of justice and unity.
If the cases against the likes of Sunday Igboho and the chairman of Miyetti Allah were discontinued, then Kanu’s case should also be discontinued for the sake of national interest,” he added.
