“My Family Is Intact” – Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno Reacts to Trending Video

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno has addressed a trending video circulating on social media, asserting firmly that his family remains united and condemning what he describes as a deliberate attempt to stir controversy during a period of celebration.

Speaking during the second anniversary of his administration, the Governor dismissed the content and timing of the video, clarifying that the footage in question dates back to a period shortly after the passing of his late wife last year.

“My family is intact and you can see all of them here,” the Governor said at a press briefing. “The event you are talking about took place immediately my wife died last year, so why is it surfacing now on the eve of our second anniversary when we are celebrating the milestone we have achieved?”

He described the release of the video as the handiwork of detractors seeking to derail the focus of his administration, particularly as it marks a major milestone in its governance journey.

“That teaches me that there are detractors around. My family is intact — that’s Jane herself there. We are a good family,” he added, pointing to his daughter.

Reflecting on the emotional toll of bereavement, the Governor appealed for sensitivity toward families grappling with grief, especially children.

“The pressure on the kids when they lose a loved one could be traumatic and we must know that. What I can only appeal to everyone is that they should not bring back the sad memory. Allow my wife’s peaceful soul to rest in peace.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to public service and emphasized that personal matters — particularly family — should remain outside the bounds of political conflict.

“I can’t be detracted. I remain focused. I will continue to serve Akwa Ibom people. I don’t wish what happened to me to happen to anyone else. People throwing this thing around — if that is what they wish for themselves, I wish them good luck.”

In a final note, the Governor urged restraint, stating unequivocally:

“Even in politics, family should be off limits.”
