ASABA- Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council under the Leadership of Comrade Mike Ikeogwu had recently given an Award of Excellence of best Academic Excellence, Infrastructural development, Youth mentorship and Community Service to the immediate past Provost of the Federal College of Education ( Technical), Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria, Dr. Ignatius Ezoem.
This was disclosed to our reporter recently by Dr. Ignatius Ozoem during the 2019 NUJ Press Week/Lecture/Award/ Fund raising at the Conference Hall of David’s Event Centre in Asaba, Delta State capital.
The colourful event as held by the State Council Chapter of the pen pushers had the entire Executives of the Council, Members of NUJ in the State, Who- is – Who in Delta State in attendance, Veteran Journalists, Government Officials and critical Stakeholders as Guests of honor and Speakers who dwelt on the theme:” Enhancing Safety of Journalists in a Security -Challenged Polity”.
The State Chairman of NUJ presenting the Award on Academic Excellence, infrastructural development, Youth Mentorship, and Community Services to the Provost Emeritus, Dr. Ignatius Ezoem commended him on behalf of Delta NUJ on his immense contributions as a Provost as a two time administrator in Federal College Education Technical, Asaba.
He added that Dr. Ignatius Ezoem is one those critical Stakeholders that was honored owing to the infrastructural exploits, Educational excellence, Youth mentorship and Community Services, which he pursued, achieved and represents in the society.
Dr. Ezoem in response to the kind gesture thanked the leadership of the Council in Delta State, while eulogizing the epic roles the media played in the actualization of Nigerian independence during the Brish Colonial era.
He stated that Journalism is one the core Profession he embraced even as a child that he was taught by his grandfather in his Village then at Idumu- Ogo Community, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Dr. Ignatius Ezoem whose father was one time the Traditional Ruler of Idumu-Ogo Kingdom flashback how his grandfather’s presence was being noticed in the entire Community with a very particular sound like a traditional Communication equipment called “Gong” being used by Community town criers as the object was tied around his waist, draws curious,
informative and captivating attention and while passing, or moving around the Community.
The Provost Emeritus, who doubled then as the Chairman of Committee of Provosts of Federal Colleges of Education Nigeria enjoined the Council to remain steadfast in their calling that he is one of them, also that he is just like a Father to them, who According to him will continue to support and identify with the Council.
