“My Son Didn’t Do Any Money Ritual” — Destiny Boy’s Mother Speaks Out

Destiny Boy’s Mother

The mother of late Nigerian singer Destiny Boy has granted an interview, opening up on the circumstances surrounding her son’s death and dismissing widespread rumours that he was involved in money rituals.

Speaking emotionally, the grieving mother said Destiny Boy, who would have turned 23 this year, had been battling a long-term illness that was kept away from the public due to his celebrity status.

“He has gone to rest,” she said. “I am his mum and I am ready to tell the world what you don’t know about him. God will curse everyone using my son’s name to trend.”

According to her, the health challenge began about two years ago after Destiny welcomed his son and was preparing for the child’s naming ceremony. She explained that a man identified as Ifayomi, whom she described as a babalawo and someone who cared deeply for Destiny, was involved in efforts to help treat him.

She revealed that Destiny suffered from recurring seizures, locally referred to as “Oku oru,” during which he would collapse and, upon regaining consciousness, run around uncontrollably.

“Anytime the sickness strikes him, he will fall on the floor and when he recovers, he will start running around like a mad person,” she said.

The singer was reportedly taken to several places for treatment, including hospitals, churches and herbal homes, but no lasting solution was found. She added that Ifayomi supported his medical treatment financially and at one point asked that Destiny be brought to his house for care.

Recounting the final days before his death, the mother said Destiny travelled to Ayetoro about two weeks ago and was later taken to Ifayomi’s house again for treatment after another seizure episode. She said she remained in contact by phone and was initially told he was responding well.

However, days later, she was informed that the seizures had returned and that he had been rushed to the hospital.

“By the time I got to the hospital, they told me he had passed away,” she said.

She firmly denied allegations circulating on social media that her son engaged in money rituals.

“My son didn’t do any money ritual,” she stressed.

Destiny Boy rose to fame at a young age with his unique blend of street pop and Fuji-inspired sound, earning a strong fan base across Nigeria before his untimely death.
