Morocco international Brahim Díaz has released an emotional statement following the Atlas Lions’ painful setback at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, taking personal responsibility for the team’s failure to lift the trophy.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the Real Madrid midfielder admitted he is deeply hurt by the outcome, revealing how much the dream of winning the title meant to him.

“My soul hurts. I dreamed of this title thanks to all the love you all gave me,” Díaz wrote, acknowledging the unwavering support from Moroccan fans throughout the tournament. He stressed that every message and show of encouragement pushed him to give everything on the pitch.

Díaz did not shy away from blame, openly apologising to supporters and the nation. “Yesterday I failed and I take full responsibility. I apologize from the bottom of my heart,” he stated.

The 24-year-old admitted the disappointment would be difficult to overcome, describing it as a wound that does not heal easily. However, he vowed to keep pushing forward, not for personal reasons, but for the fans who believed in him and shared in the pain of defeat.

“I will keep going forward until one day I can give you all this love back and become a source of pride for my Moroccan people,” Díaz concluded.
