Neymar Jr has revealed that he sought psychological support this season after experiencing what he describes as one of the most emotionally challenging moments of his career.
Speaking to getv, the Brazilian star admitted that the backlash following the match against Flamengo deeply affected him:
After the match against Flamengo, I received far too many criticisms. When it comes to me, people always go a little overboard with the limits…”
Neymar explained that, for the first time, he reached a point where he could no longer cope on his own:
This time, it was the first time I asked for help after my emotional state hit zero. I no longer had the strength to get back up on my own. I asked for help.”
He credited his coach, teammates, and family for helping him regain his stability and confidence:
My coach, my teammates, my family… they were extremely important in that moment because they helped me get back to my level. I thank them all, because without them, I don’t think I would have had the strength to come back.”
Neymar added that although he had undergone therapy in the past for personal growth, this was the first time he truly felt emotionally depleted:
I had done therapy a long time ago, but not because I was doing badly just because I wanted self-improvement. But this time, my emotional state really hit zero.”
Despite being known for his resilience, the forward admitted this season tested him in ways he had never experienced:
I confess that I’m very strong emotionally… I can take a lot of criticism and attacks, but this time I just couldn’t take it anymore.”
