Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have been locked in one of hip-hop’s most notorious rivalries for years. After a brief lull, the feud reignited on September 29, when both rappers exchanged a series of blistering posts on social media.
It all started when Nicki, the Pink Friday rapper, took to X (formerly Twitter) with a fiery rant. She mocked recent reports involving Cardi’s partner, NFL star Stefon Diggs, and threw shade at the Bronx rapper’s latest album sales. Nicki also suggested Cardi had undergone surgery to resemble her, sparking a heated response.
Cardi fired back by referencing Nicki’s brother, who was convicted of predatory assault, before clapping back at the comparisons Nicki drew between them. In a since-deleted tweetstorm, Nicki compared Cardi’s Am I the Drama? album to “Barney,” ridiculing her artistry.
Cardi, 32, defended herself by highlighting the unfairness of the comparison:
“Why you keep bringing up my album?? It’s not the gag that you think it is. You been in the game like 16 years. You need to compare yourself to YOUR peers that started around YOUR time. Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Drake… those are the numbers you need to be competing wit, and you can’t cuz you doing lower than all of them.”
Nicki then escalated matters with a jab at Cardi’s pregnancy, prompting a brutal comeback. Cardi accused her rival of alleged drug use, dubbing her “Co***ne Barbie,” and insinuated it had affected her ability to have children—one of the most personal blows in their long-standing feud.
Shortly after, Nicki deleted all of her tweets and instead posted an image of an eagle, symbolizing “rising above” conflict. Her fans, the Barbz, pointed out the contrast between the eagle and the crow featured on Cardi’s recent album cover, hailing the move as a subtle declaration of victory.
The beef between the two megastars has raged since Cardi’s breakout in 2017 and judging by this latest round, there’s no sign of peace anytime soon.
