Niger State residents advocate free compulsory pre-marital medical examination

Stakeholders in Niger State are advocating for free and compulsory pre-marital medical examination in all the communities across the state.

The stakeholders made the call during a meeting with the House of Assembly Committees on Judiciary and Health in Minna.

They stressed the need for the state and local government councils to make adequate provisions for the exercise by equipping laboratories to achieve the desired results.

A Member representing Agwara Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Bello Agwara, noted that the bill will go along way in protecting couples from getting infected, as well as the early detection of diseases.

The Speaker, Abdullahi Bawa, enjoined the stakeholders to come up with meaningful deliberations, that will make the law more beneficial to the public

He added that the bill seeks couples to undergo medical test, which includes HIV, genotype, cancer, among other related diseases.
