Nigeria, Ghana, Others to Experience Lunar Eclipse Today

Lunar Eclipse

Nigeria and several other countries will witness a lunar eclipse on Sunday, September 7.

According to NTA, the eclipse will begin around 8 PM Nigerian time and last for about 83 minutes. Scientists note that the phenomenon will be visible across much of Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Benin, Togo, Niger, and Chad. Some western regions, however, may miss the early penumbral or partial phases as the Moon will rise closer to or during totality.

Experts emphasize that the eclipse is completely safe to observe with the naked eye.

A total lunar eclipse happens when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align in space, with Earth positioned in the middle, casting its shadow over the Moon.
