Thirteen commercial sex workers, including 12 Nigerian women and a Ghanaian woman, have been arrested in Koforidua during a special operation targeting prostitution and human trafficking.
The New Juaben South Municipal Police Command confirmed that two additional individuals—a landlord and a bouncer—were also arrested for their involvement in the illegal activities.
The operation followed a complaint lodged on Thursday, February 6, 2026, by Stella Godwill, a 30-year-old Nigerian commercial sex worker residing in Nsukwao, Koforidua. Godwill alleged that she had been trafficked from Nigeria to Ghana by her alleged mistress, Christabel Simon Monday, also a Nigerian national, for prostitution.
According to Superintendent Ransford Nsiah, the Municipal Police Commander, Godwill told police that she was required to meet a daily sales target of 400 Ghana cedis. On the day of the incident, she only managed to raise 250 Ghana cedis, which led to her being physically assaulted by her mistress and the mistress’s boyfriend, Simon Kwarteng.
Following the complaint, police moved to Dabiasem, a suburb of New Juaben, where Christabel Simon Monday was arrested. Investigations also uncovered a brothel in the area, leading to the arrest of 12 other suspects, aged between 15 and 31. Condoms were reportedly found on the premises.
The suspects are believed to have violated Sections 273, 274, and 277 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which prohibit prostitution, human trafficking, and operating brothels. Superintendent Nsiah confirmed that all suspects are in custody, with the minor involved separated for protection.
