History is again made today being 7th day of August, 2020 as the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital which is meant to service the Southeast, Middle belt and some parts of South South is sited in Nkwegu Military Cantonment, Abakaliki.
Speaking during the occasion, the representative of the Chief of Army Staff, who is also the Chief of Training and Operations Lt. General Lameo Adeosun stated that it has become imperative that such facility be sited around the Southeast zone to curb the menace of travelling to Lagos for specialized health services of some military personnel (including Civilians). Ebonyi State has been chosen for this special project because of her capacity, environment and the numerous infrastructural feats achieved by the present administration; he added.
Also in his goodwill message, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Brigadier General Lasisi Adegboye, lauded the Ebonyi State Governor for attracting such magnificent project to the state. This 200-bed medical facility will be completed according to international standard and will be delivered within six (6) months from today. It will be accessible to both the military personnel and the civilians hence the location; and I count it as a privilege to serve in this Southeast zone under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Dave Umahi; he added.
In his address, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE FNATE stated that a standard for doing a quality and durable infrastructural job has been set in Ebonyi State and that he will be on constant monitoring to ensure that the standard is not compromised. Sacking of the Service Chiefs at this critical security period is not an option, what the security need is support, fortification and not otherwise, he added. He also commiserate with the families of the gallant officers who have paid the ultimate price in the course of protecting the life and properties of the citizenry.
