Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Area Fada, has stated that Nigeria’s problems are not caused by leaders alone but also by the complicity of ordinary citizens.
In a fiery statement on Thursday, the maverick activist lamented that while politicians are often accused of looting public funds, many Nigerians also enable corruption through their actions.
“Politicians dey thief, yes, but who dey sell him vote for one derica of rice? Na you! Who dey defend oppressors online like say dem dey pay your school fees? Na you! Who dey clap for thieves when dem drive convoy pass? Na ordinary Nigerians,” he said.
He accused citizens of hypocrisy, noting that while many openly condemn government officials, they still accept bribes, celebrate corrupt leaders, and protect them from criticism.
“We dey curse government for daytime, but by night we dey collect 5k bribe and sing praises for the same criminals. Hypocrisy full ground,” Area Fada stated.
According to him, until Nigerians stop glorifying corrupt politicians and begin to shame them, the country will continue to remain in chains.
“Our chains no dey only for Aso Rock, e dey our own mindset. Me, I no dey fear anybody, Area Fada go always talk am as e be,” he declared.
