No Room for Political Recycling — Adebayo, SDP Shuns ADC Alliance

Prince Adewole Adebayo

Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has reiterated his party’s unwavering commitment to ethical governance, setting clear boundaries against accommodating established politicians with questionable track records.

Speaking on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM,Ilese Ijebu, on Wednesday, Adebayo disclosed that several prominent figures of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) had approached SDP to form a coalition aimed at challenging the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He dismissed such overtures, stressing that the party’s principles are non-negotiable and that SDP was founded to provide Nigerians with a credible platform grounded in social democracy, fairness, and accountability.
According to Adebayo, the SDP’s stance is not driven by personal animosity or political rivalry, but by the need to ensure that leadership positions are occupied by patriotic, ethical, and competent Nigerians who can deliver meaningful change.

Adebayo emphasized the distinction between SDP and other opposition parties, particularly ADC, which has successfully attracted big names in Nigerian politics, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi. “We cannot compromise our platform by harboring individuals whose previous leadership records have been problematic or who have been complicit in misgovernance,” Adebayo said. “Those who have failed to deliver on promises made while in office, who have been implicated in mismanagement, and who have not shown respect for the welfare of the Nigerian people cannot form part of our vision for Nigeria. We are here to correct the mistakes of the past, and our standards are high because we know that Nigerians deserve leaders who are accountable, patriotic, and committed to ethical governance.”

He further explained that the SDP was established not as a vehicle for recycling politicians, but as a transformative platform aimed at offering Nigerians alternatives that guarantee social welfare, security, and economic prosperity. “Our party is not set up for political games, opportunistic alliances, or big-man politics,” he added. “We are here to serve Nigerians in every community, to ensure governance that is transparent, to provide solutions that improve the lives of citizens, and to offer a platform for fresh, credible, and patriotic leaders who have proven records of service and integrity. This is the SDP difference, and we will not compromise it for any coalition or political expedience.”

Focus on Practical Solutions Over Political Skirmishes

Addressing concerns over alleged interference by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in opposition party structures, Adebayo stated that external pressures exist but should not distract from the SDP’s mission. “Politics is what politics is, and yes, the APC may try to manipulate structures, create problems for opposition parties, or even use state institutions to destabilize emerging platforms,” he said. “However, our mission is bigger than any inter-party struggle. Our focus is squarely on the failures of the government in delivering security, employment, social welfare, and economic opportunities to Nigerians. While others are distracted with internal wrangling or external pressure, SDP is focused on practical solutions that will ensure citizens’ well-being and national progress.”

Adebayo reiterated that the SDP is committed to addressing the daily struggles Nigerians face, from insecurity and unemployment to inadequate healthcare and failing infrastructure. “We cannot sit back and allow political machinations to overshadow the real issues facing our people,” he stressed. “Our platform prioritizes the welfare of Nigerians, and our politics is about creating policies that work for citizens, not serving the interests of political elites. This is why we insist on a clean platform that is free from politicians with tainted records, because the Nigerian people deserve nothing less than leaders they can trust to govern with integrity and compassion.”

Humanitarian Engagement in Plateau State

Currently in Plateau State, Adebayo who has been actively engaging communities affected by recent attacks during the Easter period, described SDP’s intervention as rooted in humanitarian concern rather than political ambition. “It is irresponsible for leaders to remain distant or limit condolence visits to airports,” Adebayo said, referencing a recent presidential visit to affected communities. “When we visited, we went into the heart of the communities. We spoke directly with survivors, with families of the deceased, and with community leaders. We also engaged with law enforcement agents to understand the challenges they face and offered immediate support. That is what leadership looks like. That is what being present for the people means. You cannot just visit and leave; action is what matters.”

He further stressed that security is about proactive intervention and not empty promises. “Security is not about making promises or political statements,” he stated emphatically. “It is about immediate action to protect citizens. When attacks occur, people expect protection and support, not delayed statements or ceremonial visits that do not change conditions on the ground. Our presence in Plateau State ensures that lives are acknowledged, that support is provided, and that communities feel stabilized and cared for. That is the model of leadership we are committed to, and that is what we will continue to offer if entrusted with governance.”

SDP’s Philosophy and Political Standards

Adebayo highlighted that SDP’s philosophy centers on accountability, social welfare, and the creation of a platform for credible Nigerians to emerge as leaders. “We are building a party that is focused on results, not rhetoric,” he explained. “The SDP is a space for Nigerians who are committed to reform, who believe in ethical governance, and who are passionate about improving the lives of their fellow citizens. We are not interested in political convenience or temporary popularity. Our standard is simple: only individuals with a clear record, patriotism, ethical integrity, and competence will have a home in SDP.”
He cited the recent endorsement of SDP by regional groups such as Afenifere as evidence of the party’s growing credibility and outreach. “Thousands of credible Nigerians with unblemished records are joining our party,” Adebayo said. “We are building a movement that prioritizes integrity, policy-driven politics, and the welfare of the people. This is in stark contrast to other parties that have prioritized opportunistic affiliations, political recycling, and patronage networks. SDP is for Nigerians who want meaningful change, and that is why our standards remain uncompromising.”

Rejecting Big-Man Politics

On the question of why SDP does not attract big-name political figures like those in ADC, Adebayo reiterated that the party maintains ethical boundaries and refuses to harbor leaders whose past records are inconsistent with its vision. “We do not compromise our principles by accepting individuals who have been part of governance failures, mismanagement, or corruption. We refuse to present Nigerians with the illusion of change by recycling the same set of politicians who have historically failed to deliver. SDP is a party of ideas, good policies, and ethical leadership, not a vehicle for political expedience. Our focus remains on offering Nigerians a clean, accountable, and competent government that will prioritize their welfare and national development above all else.” he said

Adebayo concluded by asserting that SDP’s vision is about fostering fresh leadership and implementing policies that can transform Nigeria. “We are not competing for space with leaders whose records mirror the failures of the current government,” he said. “We are creating a platform where patriotic, competent, and ethical leaders can emerge to lead Nigeria into a new era of accountability, development, and prosperity. This is the standard of SDP, and we will maintain it unwaveringly, because Nigerians deserve leaders who are honest, competent, and focused on the common good.”
