Following continuous destruction of properties and killings of innocent citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, residing in the Northern part of the country, by the Bandits and Boko Haram insurgents, some concerned citizens in the North have commenced protest to register their dissatisfactions concerning the security situation in the region.
However, in their bid to make the protest more voluminous, a civil rights group, Take it Back Movement, has called on all Nigerians in the Southern part of the country to join the protest. They cited reason that there are Southerners living in the northern part of the country. Hence, their supports will be for the safety of their relatives residing in the North.
Unfortunately, considering the security situation of the country, it will be better off for citizens residing in the southern part of the country to ignore the calls from their northern counterparts to join the protest.
Interestingly, it is important for the residents of the southern part of Nigeria to recall that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is, relentlessly, not folding arms on the security challenges facing the North.
For instance, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has acquired sophisticated armoury that is, surely, capable of bringing both the Boko Haram insurgents and Bandits down on their kneels.
The fighter jets purchased by the Federal Government of Nigeria and other military armoury have been, strategically, deployed to combat the security challenges being posed by the Bandits and Boko Haram insurgents. Hence, there may not be enough reason for the southern citizens to join hands with their northern counterparts, mounting pressure on the government, when the needed are being done by the same government.
Besides, the recent directive given by President Muhammadu Buhari, ordering all service chiefs to, with immediate effect, relocate to the restive regions in the North and ensure normalcy is returned to the regions could, considerably, be seen as an applaudable step that has been taken by the government.
