Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has appealed for calm and constructive engagement following the conviction and sentencing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on terrorism charges delivered on 20 November 2025.

In a statement issued shortly after returning from a five-day NTAC monitoring exercise in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Ojukwu described the development as “a sad and unexpected outcome,” but urged Ndigbo and Nigerians to approach the moment with restraint and clarity.

According to her, the present situation calls for sobriety, not provocation, warning that any incendiary actions—whether at home or in the diaspora—could further escalate tensions.

There comes a time in the history of a people when there is need for calm. That time is now,” she said.

Ojukwu emphasized that the path to resolving the crisis lies in collective dialogue, calling on South East governors, lawmakers, clergy, traditional rulers, political leaders, and business stakeholders to unite and engage federal authorities constructively.

She stressed that resorting to anger or confrontation would yield “diminishing returns,” potentially deepening instability in the region.

Reassuring citizens and international partners, Ojukwu maintained that avenues still exist for a political resolution capable of reducing national anxiety and societal trauma.

Over the years, I have continued to mediate with critical stakeholders. Now is the time for all of us in Ala Igbo to put our hands on deck and jointly pursue a sincere, all-inclusive engagement to resolve this matter,” she stated.

Her message concludes with a strong appeal for patience, unity, and a renewed commitment to peace as the nation navigates the tense aftermath of the court’s decision.
