NYSC appeals to Ogun Govt. to resuscitate payment of stipends to corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun, has implored the state government to resuscitate the monthly payment of stipends to corps members in ministries, departments and agencies.

Dr Belinda Faniyi, the NYSC state coordinator, made this appeal in Sagamu on Thursday at the inauguration of the Batch “B” Stream 11 corps members deployed to the state.

Faniyi noted that the government should consider the economic contributions of the corps members to the development of the state, especially with the present economic situation in the country.

She pleaded with Gov. Dapo Abiodun to constitute the NYSC State Governing Board and the Local Government committees, which would be involved in the welfare of the corps members in both the state and council areas.

Faniyi also sought the support of the state government in the establishment of a Skill Acquisition Development Centre within for the in-camp and post-camp training of corps members.

She said that the gesture would also benefit the host community and the state in general.

The coordinator also expressed gratitude to Gov. Dapo Abiodun for his support towards the cause of the NYSC in the state .

“I say a big thank you to him for the recent employment of two of our serving corps members during the launch of the job portal.

“At the end of the registration, a total of 1, 719 prospective corps members, comprising 798 males and 921 females of various disciplines registered and became eligible to be inducted into the NYSC, ” she said.

In his address, the governor noted that the NYSC scheme was making a great impact in the various sectors of the national economy.

The governor, represented by Kola Fagbohun, the Permanent Secretary,  Ministry of Youths and Sports, noted that the scheme had contributed to the growth of the  state through the provision of highly skilled manpower, especially in the rural areas.

He added that government would continue to support and internalise the development tenets of the NYSC for the continued development of all sectors of the economy.
