The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims circulating on social media that it denied Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, with state code number LA/24B/8325, a Certificate of National Service because of critical remarks about the government.
In a statement issued by the NYSC Management, the scheme described the allegation as “entirely unfounded and false in its entirety,” clarifying that Rita’s case was purely a disciplinary matter.
According to the statement, Rita is among 131 Corps Members whose certificates were withheld for valid reasons. Her service year was extended by two months after she failed to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, an action the management said was in line with NYSC bye-laws.
The NYSC explained that the extension was a standard procedure applied equally to all affected Corps Members, and not unique to her case.
“The principle of equal treatment was applied in this case. Extending service for non-compliance is a longstanding tradition within the NYSC and should not be politicized,” the statement read in part.
The management urged the public to approach the matter with understanding, reaffirming its commitment to carrying out its mandate in line with the constitution.
