The National Youth Service Corps has promised to communicate to corps members whenever the payment of the new allowance of N30,000 begins.
The NYSC Director-General, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, stated this during the NYSC Freedom of Information Desk Officers’ Workshop held in Abuja.
The DG on Friday noted that the scheme had grappled with challenges occasioned by what he described as the apparent lack of knowledge of the NYSC’s policies and operations by a section of the public.
Ibrahim said, “Since the enactment of the Freedom of Information Act in 2011, the NYSC has been in the forefront of ensuring total compliance with the provisions of the Act.”
Asked about the information on the proposed N30,000 allowance for corps members, the DG said, “They will be communicated accordingly, please.”
The NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, who is the host of the workshop, noted that the scheme had FOI community development service groups for corps members who assist in sensitising members of the public to the FOI Act.
Meanwhile, according to the NYSC in its mobilisation timetable for Batch B 2019, corps members started printing their call-up letters on Friday and they are expected to resume their respective orientation camps by Tuesday.
The three-week orientation course for the Batch B stream 1 will commence by Wednesday, which is also the day when online registration of foreign and locally trained Nigerian graduates for Stream 2 will begin.
