Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed concern over the Federal Government’s handling of the nation’s security challenges, particularly the growing trend of negotiating with terrorists.
Speaking while reflecting on Nigeria’s past security framework, Obasanjo said that during his administration, the country possessed the capacity to apprehend any criminal “anywhere in the country.” He questioned why such capability appeared diminished.
“Before I left office, I knew Nigeria had the capacity to apprehend anyone who committed a crime anywhere in the country. Why is the government negotiating with terrorists?” Obasanjo queried.
His remarks come amid heightened public debate over the government’s strategy in tackling banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism across several states.
