Ogun Police Launch Probe After Lagos Agency Withdraws from Viral Case

 Mirabel

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has withdrawn from the investigation into the viral sexual assault allegation shared on social media by a young woman identified as Mirabel.

Mirabel had earlier posted a disturbing video online alleging that an unidentified man broke into her home and sexually assaulted her. In the video, she claimed the attacker used a razor blade to inflict injuries on her before forcefully having intercourse with her. In a follow-up clip, she disclosed that she later ingested a poisonous substance and was rushed to the hospital, where she was revived.

The videos sparked widespread reactions across social media, particularly after Mirabel stated that she is an orphan and expressed suicidal thoughts.

Following the public outcry, the Lagos DSVA issued a statement seeking assistance from the public to locate Mirabel in order to commence a detailed investigation that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the alleged perpetrator.

However, in an update released on Tuesday, February 18, the agency announced that it had successfully established contact with a close friend of Mirabel, who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital.

The agency further stated that preliminary findings revealed the alleged incident occurred in Ogun State, which falls outside its jurisdiction. Consequently, the DSVA confirmed it would no longer lead the investigation.

According to the statement, the Ogun State Police Command has since commenced an investigation into the matter.

Authorities have assured the public that appropriate steps are being taken to ensure a thorough probe into the allegations.
