
Renowned Nigerian comedian and actor, Okey Bakassi, has been appointed the traditional ruler of the Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Mbaise, Imo State.
Born Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule on October 23, 1969, the celebrated entertainer is set to formally ascend the throne as His Royal Highness Eze Okechukwu Onyegbule, Okwe I of Umuihuocha Obohia Autonomous Community, upon his coronation.
This appointment marks a significant new chapter in Bakassi’s public life, as he transitions from a distinguished career in entertainment to a role of traditional leadership and communal service.
Announcing the news via his social media page, the 55-year-old comedian described the honour as a “Next Level” moment. In his post, he expressed deep gratitude to the people of Umuihuocha for their trust and described the appointment as a call to serve. “Service to Community,” he wrote, highlighting the seriousness with which he embraces the role.
