
A Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) operative in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State has allegedly shot and killed a 25-year-old man during an altercation, injuring the victim’s elder brother and triggering a violent protest by youths in the community.
Akelicious gathered that the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on December 6, when the CJTF member, identified only as Hamza, reportedly engaged in a heated dispute with two residents, Ibrahim Abdullahi (25) and his 60-year-old brother, Lawal Abdullahi, both of Tashar Ladan, Kurfi.
According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation escalated, prompting the CJTF operative to allegedly open fire. Ibrahim died instantly, while Lawal sustained gunshot wounds.
News of the killing sparked outrage among local youths, who stormed the area in protest. The demonstrators reportedly set ablaze a CJTF patrol vehicle and later attempted to burn down the Kurfi Local Government Secretariat. Security personnel, however, intervened promptly and dispersed the crowd before further damage could occur.
The victims were taken to the Kurfi Comprehensive Health Centre, where a medical doctor confirmed Ibrahim Abdullahi dead. His elder brother, Lawal popularly known as Kurma was admitted and is said to be responding to treatment.
