Renowned political strategist and media consultant, Eneh Victor Chigozie, has written a deeply emotional tribute to mark the one-year remembrance of the tragic passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who died on July 27th, 2024.
In a heartfelt reflection titled “I Am Still in Shock”, Eneh recounted the exact moment he received the devastating news of the Senator’s death a call that changed his life forever. He described being en route to the Enugu Airport when a friend, overwhelmed with emotion, broke the sad news with the words: “Uwaa emebigo… alu emego… Ifeanyi Ubah is dead.”
The tribute paints a vivid picture of the late Senator’s political genius, courage, loyalty, and impact on Nigerian politics. Eneh shared never-before-heard stories of their relationship dating back to 2018, including political rescue missions, near-death experiences, and critical moments of political strategy that helped shape the 2019 and 2023 elections.
One of the most revealing parts of the tribute was how Senator Ubah sacrificed personal alliances and committed resources to support Eneh’s candidate during a tense senatorial rerun in Enugu East a testament to the senator’s loyalty and gratitude.
Eneh also recounted how Senator Ubah stood firm in defense of his political independence when a former Enugu governor attempted to intimidate him, quoting Ubah as saying: “Eneh is not my boy, he is my friend. I don’t control him.”
Reflecting on their final mission together, Eneh described how a security team was dispatched to escort him from Enugu to Asaba for a last-minute political intervention that led them to Abuja in a private jet. That mission would be the last time they would see each other before Ubah’s death.
“Your type comes once in a century,” Eneh wrote. “Up till now, I’m yet to understand how or why it happened. You came, you saw, you changed lives. You were a political role model to so many.”
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, a man widely known for his philanthropic spirit, fearless political stance, and grassroots connection, died in July 2024 under still-puzzling circumstances after reportedly slumping in London. His loss continues to echo through the political landscape of Anambra State and beyond.
The tribute ends with a tearful farewell,
“Dimkpa, Rest On, Odogwu m. May God forgive your shortcomings and give you a deserved rest in His Bosom.”
