The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a fresh warning to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, insisting that only sincere reconciliation with the state’s lawmakers can save him from impeachment.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers, Tony Okocha, accused the suspended governor of failing to initiate peace efforts to resolve the lingering political crisis between him and the State House of Assembly.

The political tension in Rivers State escalated on March 18 when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency, following weeks of conflict between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. As part of the intervention, both the governor and the Assembly were suspended, and retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas was appointed as sole administrator for an initial six-month term.

Though recent closed-door meetings involving the President, Wike, and Fubara have stirred hopes for peace, the Rivers APC maintains that no reconciliation effort has been made by the embattled governor.

Okocha stated, “I can confirm that there is no reconciliation effort currently underway in Rivers. The suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has not taken any steps to reconcile with the lawmakers. Only genuine reconciliation can save him from impeachment, as the Supreme Court’s ruling on this matter still stands.”

Amid speculations that the President may use the upcoming June 12 Democracy Day anniversary to lift the suspension and reinstate Fubara, political observers continue to watch developments in Rivers State closely.
