In the video, the oracle declared that former Vice President and PDP stalwart Atiku Abubakar would emerge victorious, defeating prominent contenders including incumbent President Bola Tinubu, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and controversial activist VeryDarkMan, who has hinted at political ambitions.
The consultation, conducted in a rural shrine with traditional rituals, reflects a deep-rooted cultural practice in Nigeria where spiritual guidance is often sought ahead of major life and national decisions. Despite the nation’s modern political processes, traditional oracles continue to hold sway in influencing public opinion, especially in communities with long-standing beliefs in ancestral and spiritual authority.
This practice has historical significance. Scholars note that oracles were once central to dispute resolution and trust-building in pre-colonial Nigeria, particularly in the absence of a reliable legal system. Today, their use persists in various forms, including during elections.
