Former Abia State Governor and serving Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has backed recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump on widespread killings in Nigeria, saying the American leader “spoke the truth.”
Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly on Monday, Kalu said thousands of Nigerians have been killed in attacks perpetrated by terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers, noting that the victims include both Christians and Muslims.
“Donald Trump spoke the truth; Nigerians are being killed. Whether they are Christians or Muslims, they are Nigerians,” Kalu stated.
He explained that in northern states such as Zamfara, Katsina, and Jigawa—areas with predominantly Muslim populations—the majority of casualties are Muslims. Conversely, in states like Benue and Plateau, which are largely Christian, most victims are Christians.
Kalu also suggested that Trump’s remarks were likely based on U.S. intelligence briefings. “Before Donald Trump spoke, the American intelligence community must have found out where these people are residing,” he said.
The senator urged the Federal Government and the Nigerian military to intensify their operations against insurgents and armed groups to prevent further loss of lives.
