Jubilation has erupted in Orsumoghu community as residents celebrate the end of a five-year reign of terror that left the once-thriving town in ruins.

After enduring years of insecurity, displacement, and hardship, locals are finally returning home following the liberation of the community from armed groups that had held it hostage since 2020.

Residents trooped into the streets on Monday singing, dancing, and offering prayers of thanksgiving. The mood was one of overwhelming relief as families reunited and community leaders vowed to begin rebuilding their town from the ashes.

“This is the day we’ve been praying for,” said Chief Uchenna Nwosu, a community elder. “For years, we lived as refugees in our own state. Now, we can breathe again.”

Security sources confirmed that a joint operation involving the Nigerian Army and other security agencies successfully reclaimed the community over the weekend. The operation reportedly dismantled several insurgent camps and restored relative calm to the area.

Local authorities have promised immediate humanitarian support and reconstruction efforts, assuring displaced residents of safety as they resettle.

As dusk fell on Monday, the sound of church bells, drums, and jubilation echoed across the once-deserted streets — a poignant reminder that Orsumoghu has finally reclaimed not just its land, but its hope.
