Osun Senator Quits PDP in Latest Party Defection

The lawmaker representing Osun Central in the Senate, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party.

Fadeyi’s resignation letter, dated 12th July, 2025, was addressed to the PDP Ward 3 chairman, Oke Ejigbo, Ila Orangun, Osun State.

The Senator confirmed the letter, a copy of which was obtained in Osogbo on Saturday, in a message to our correspondent.

The letter partly read, “I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

Irreconcilable differences and irreparable division that have emerged and court cases and counter court cases in the last 3 years, which have created faction in the party at the national level.

“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family and friends.”

Earlier, the lawmaker representing Osun East in the Senate, Francis Fadahunsi, resigned his membership of the PDP.

In his resignation letter, which surfaced on the social media early on Saturday, Fadahunsi, a two-term Senator, cited irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles ravaging PDP.

When Fadahunsi was contacted by The PUNCH*, he confirmed the letter with a terse text message. The lawmaker was asked to confirm the letter and he simply wrote ‘YES’.

The letter, signed by the lawmaker, addressed to the Ward 4 PDP Chairman and dated 12th June, 2025, read partly, “I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedevilled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections.

“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family and friends.

“It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith.”
