A two-year-old girl (name withheld) has been rescued from a deep well in the Saki area of Oyo State by officers of the state’s Fire Services Agency.
The incident happened at Orita Mokola Junction, Seedu Sabarumu, Sango in Saki Local Government Area on Wednesday.
Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the rescue on Wednesday.
Akinwande said the girl was found and handed over to a police team led by CSP Odunbanjo Kehinde for further action.
According to Akinwande, the agency received the emergency alert at exactly 1:43 p.m.
“A running caller reported to the Saki Fire Station that someone had fallen into a well. Our officers, led by PFS11 Saka, quickly responded,” he said.
He added that CFM Adediran Jacob entered the well and successfully brought the child out.
While the cause of the incident is still unknown, Akinwande said the Fire Service’s investigation team is working to uncover what happened.
He also urged residents to cover their wells and septic tanks properly to prevent similar accidents.
“We advise the public to put proper safety measures in place to stop wells and pits from becoming death traps,” he said.
