PDP tackles Fayemi over appointment of Ekiti SIEC chair

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has condemned Governor Kayode Fayemi on Justice Jide Aladejana’s appointment as the chairman of Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC).

Besides, the PDP did not only allege that the SIEC boss was a dismissed judge, it also stated that such appointment had created a burden on the electoral body, insisting that Fayemi had demonstrated  zero concern for morality in democracy.

The party in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Jackson Adebayo  queried how a dismissed judge in the State judiciary could be made to head a sensitive body that is saddled with the conduct of Local government elections in the mist of many qualified Ekiti sons and daughters.

The party reminded Fayemi that an attempt by the judge to overturn his alleged dismissal was overruled by court at different level, hence, he was not qualified to conduct elections for the local government where people of integrity would contest.

PDP also pointed out that many of the members of the SIEC were card carrying members of the ruling All Progressive Congress, saying that on this basis local government elections were stopped by court in the first term of Fayemi when Mr Soji Oloketuyi membership of SIEC was proved to be inappropriate because he was a card carrying member of the ruling party up till today and also member of the electoral body.

“However we want to assure him that PDP will go into the election with all seriousness unlike the coward party that decided to boycott the previous Local government elections in the State,” PDP said.

But SIEC’s Commissioner in charge of Media and Publicity, Chief Soji Oloketuyi, who refuted the allegations described it as not only spurious but baseless.

Oloketuyi said the allegation of Justice Aladejana being allegedly dismissed from the Bench coming at a time when elections were a few months away was targeted at distracting the commission and detail the electoral process.

“To the best of my knowledge, Justice Aladejana was never dismissed from the Bench. He remains one of the most credible Ekiti men with dignity, so to us, we consider this a distraction.

“If those making the allegations are sure of themselves, let them show the proof of their accusation”, he said
