Prominent Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu, has clarified growing speculations surrounding Peter Obi’s political affiliation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a firm and personal statement, Aisha emphasized that she speaks solely for herself and not on behalf of any political party or candidate. “Let me make something categorically clear, when I speak I speak in my capacity as Aisha Yesufu who is a citizen of Nigeria,” she said.
According to her, contrary to viral assumptions, Peter Obi remains a member of the Labour Party (LP) and has not defected. However, she confirmed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been chosen as the coalition platform for the 2027 presidential election.
“Peter Obi has not left Labour Party. ADC is the party chosen for the 2027 election,” she stated, adding that in the meantime, Obi will continue to campaign for Labour Party candidates contesting upcoming elections, such as the Anambra gubernatorial and various by-elections.
She urged the public to understand that Peter Obi supporting LP candidates in current elections does not contradict the coalition strategy involving ADC for the 2027 race.
“For clarity, except for those of us in Abuja who have council elections in February 2026, ADC remains the chosen party for the 2027 election,” Aisha Yesufu concluded.
