A 2027 presidential aspirant, Chief Onyemelukwe Eusebius Zonyelu, has strongly condemned the recent wave of killings in Plateau State, describing the attacks as senseless and unacceptable.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Onyemelukwe, a former senatorial candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in the 2025 Anambra South Senatorial District election, expressed deep concern over the tragic incidents that occurred on Palm Sunday across several communities.

The affected areas include Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas, as well as parts of Jos North, particularly Angwan Rukuba in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where dozens of residents were reportedly killed by gunmen.

He said the loss of innocent lives, regardless of religion or ethnicity, poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s unity and stability, stressing that no citizen should be forced to live in fear within their own country.

“As a human rights advocate, I unequivocally condemn these senseless killings and the continued acts of violence affecting communities across Nigeria. There can be no justification for the shedding of innocent blood,” he stated.

Onyemelukwe called on security agencies to urgently identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the attacks, emphasizing that justice must be served to deter future violence.

He also raised concerns over the increasing boldness of armed groups, questioning the level of state authority in curbing insecurity. According to him, Nigeria must adopt a firm, decisive, and just measures to restore law and order. One must reflect on whether such impunity would have thrived during the administration of the late Sani Abacha. Where were Boko Haram, ISWAP, terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, ISIS, their sponsors, and those who once told Nigerians that they were “their children” then? The lesson is clear:

The presidential hopeful urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve rapid response systems, and rebuild public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.

In addition, he appealed for increased international collaboration in addressing insecurity, calling on the United States to expand its support in counter-terrorism efforts and humanitarian assistance for affected communities.

Onyemelukwe further acknowledged the efforts of American missionary and humanitarian worker, Alex Barbir, commending his contributions toward advocating for the protection of innocent Nigerians. He encouraged him not to relent in his efforts.

Reaffirming his vision for the country, Onyemelukwe stated that Nigeria must prioritize strong institutions, justice, and inclusive governance to ensure lasting peace and security.

The statement was issued under the platform of the Good Governance Movement of Nigeria & Africa.
