The Police in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State yesterday arraigned two for Keke NAPEP related crime.
The Divisional Police Office (DPO), Fegge, Onitsha South Local Government Area of the State, Rabiu Garba, who stated this assured that more criminals would be arraigned especially during the season as measure to checkmate their criminal activities.
Garba who is a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), did not however give details of the suspects but said that the Division has arraigned a good number of suspects in the area.
He also vowed that they would continue to prosecute more of the suspected criminals to serve as deterrent to others.
He said Keke criminals became rampant immediately after the stoppage of the use of Okada for public transport in the two major urban cities in the State, Onitsha and Awka.
He said those who were using motorbikes to commit crime migrated to tricycles and adopted a new strategy by either hiring or buying Keke outrightly to carry out their nefarious activities.
Rabiu said that these hoodlums who were mainly young people, sometimes coopted relatively old people and carry dangerous weapons like sharp objects with which they used to subdue, inflicted injuries and robbed their victims.
But Garba said they have been able to take care of these hoodlums in Onitsha South, using the strategy adopted by Operation Nkpoochapu 11.
He said the entire stretch of Express from Upper Iweka up to Uga Junction have been secured with visibility Policing, saying that apart from regular patrol, they have pushed more plain cloth Policemen to nipping points and bad spots.
He said with these, they have been able to bring to the barest minimum the activities of hoodlums at Upper Iweka and other dangerous zones in the area.
